Mr. Vajpayee will first inaugurate the Kashmere Gate station, which is tipped to be the busiest station in the world on completion of Metro Phase I in 2005, providing a link between the Shahdara-Barwala corridor and the Delhi University-Central Secretariat corridor. He will then "purchase'' a ticket to Seelampur where he would inaugurate a project and board the train after acquainting himself with the Metro culture, its state-of-the-art automatic fare collection system, heavy duty escalators and special elevators for the visually-challenged and wheelchair commuters. On board the train to be driven by an all-Indian crew Mr. Vajpayee would be briefed on the modern signalling, security and safety systems. The inaugural ride by the Prime Minister would also send out a signal to the public that the Metro is safe for travel, especially since the Research, Design and Standard Organisation had raised certain objections recently. As per orders of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, the train would travel at a maximum speed of 50 km per hour.
