More auto drivers hit the roads

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI DEC. 23. It is the question of "bread and butter'' that has made the first dent in the ongoing auto-strike as a good number of three-wheeler scooter rickshaws (TSRs) were seen plying on roads even as the strike "continued'' for the 15th day today.

It is fortnight now since TSR-drivers took to the street alleging "harassment'' by the State Government. But with the Government showing no signs of relenting, TSR-drivers were in Catch-22 situation has now forced them to come back of the roads even before any agreement is reached between the unions and the Government.

Almost 30 per cent of TSRs came on the roads today and were seen operating in several parts of the Capital including business centres and market places. Though a section of TSR-drivers staged dharnas, no violence was reported either with auto-drivers or general public anywhere in the city.

Meanwhile, union leaders met a cross-section of political leaders urging them to impress upon the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, to consider their demands. Dharnas were held at several places including Jantar Mantar, Hauz Khas, Vasant Vihar, Mehrauli and Vasant Kunj.
