Sivagiri pilgrimage from Dec. 30

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Dec. 23. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, will inaugurate the 70th Sivagiri pilgrimage at the Sivagiri Madhom on December 30, the pilgrimage committee chairman, Swami Sookshmananda, has said.

Swami Sookshmananda told presspersons here today that this year's pilgrimage assumed significance as it fell in the Platinum Jubilee year of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust. The Information and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, M.M. Hassan, would preside over the inaugural session.

The message of spirituality above religion preached by Sree Narayana Guru had gained great importance all over the world. Special sessions had been arranged as part of the pilgrimage which would help promote peace and amity. The session on spirituality and science, a meeting of sanyasis and the session on the waning touch of affection in human relations would be the highlights of the pilgrimage, the Swami said.

The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, would inaugurate the pilgrimage session on December 31 and the senior Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, would preside. The SNDP Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, would deliver the keynote address and SNDP Yogam centenary message. The pilgrimage would conclude on January 1.

Replying to questions, the Swami said he did not think that there was any mystery in the death of Swami Saswathikananda. When the Swami met with a watery grave in Aluva, the SNDST members were also there along with him. Now the issue was being raked up only to create a controversy. Swami Sookshmananda said they were willing to cooperate with any inquiry into the death.
