CM's participation exposed her tilt: Chidambaram

By Our Staff Reporter

THENI NOV. 23. The Congress Democratic Forum state general secretary, P. Chidambaram, today said the BJP sowed seeds of violence to harvest a victory in the Gujarat Assembly election.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr. Chidambaram said the BJP secured more seats in central Gujarat, which were worst-hit by communal riots. But it lost seats in areas unaffected by violence. It was not a defeat for the Congress, as it gained seats in Sowrashtra, north and south Gujarat.

The BJP was trying to create a Modi in each State to ensure victory in the coming Assembly elections. The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's participation in Mr. Modi's swearing-in ceremony was an indication of her inclinations.

Mr. Chidambaram suggested linking of rivers in four southern states. Linking north and south could also be considered.

He praised government programmes of rainwater harvesting, wasteland development and counselling for schoolteachers.
