Unaided institutions to go on strike

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE DEC. 23. The managements of unaided educational institutions in the State have decided to close the institutions on December 27 to pressure the Government to consider their demands, and take out a rally in Bangalore.

A press release from the Karnataka State Permanent Unaided Educational Institutions and Employees' Welfare Forum says the institutions will remained closed on December 27, to "appeal" to the Government to concede its "long-pending" demands.

The forum has urged the Government to maintain the pre-1999 guidelines for granting aid to educational institutions, and to allow the appointment of Hindi, horticulture, and crafts teachers along with attenders and watchmen for every high school.

It has also appealed to the Government not to insist on the implementation of reservation quotas. It has said that the Government should release grant-in-aid to educational institutions, and allow teachers to continue in their posts. The Government should adhere to the Karnataka High Court order with respect to the eligibility of Hindi teachers, it has said.

The forum has asked the Government to grant aid to educational institutions run by minorities and backward classes on the same lines as grants released to institutions managed by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

While releasing grants to the institutions, results should not be made a benchmark, it has said.

The forum has said that the representatives of managements and teachers of unaided primary schools, high schools, pre-university colleges, and degree colleges will congregate at Chikka Lalbagh in Bangalore on December 27, and take out a protest march, seeking implementation of its demands.
