BANGALORE. DEC. 23. The Governor, and President of the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore, T.N. Chaturvedi, has appointed the noted environmental economist, Gopal K. Kadekodi, as the Director of ISEC, for a period of five years. Currently, Prof. Kadekodi is associated with the Centre for Multidisci plinary Research, Dharwad. He has served as a professor for about 25 years in the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), New Delhi, and published 10 books on environment, general equilibrium models, poverty, and energy, and over a hundred articles in different academic journals of international repute. Speaking to The Hindu from Dharwad, he expressed his happiness over his appointment as the Director of ISEC. Prof. Kadekodi, who took his Master's degree in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, was the recipient of the Woodrow Wilson and Fulbright fellowships. He holds a doctorate degree in Economics from the California University. Prof. Kadekodi, who is also noted econometrician, is heading the Indian Society of Ecological Economics, New Delhi, for a period of two years (2002-2004). He is a consultant for the State Government and the World Bank on environment-related issues. He has made notable contributions for the preparation of the Karnataka State Environment Report. Prof. Kadekodi will succeed M. Govinda Rao, who has been appointed Director, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), New Delhi.
