Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By K. Ramachandran
According to the Vice-Chancellor, E. Balagurusamy, the inquiry by an expert team of the University found that there were ``enough indications that the leaked paper had emanated from outside the city." It showed that the leak might have occurred somewhere in the southern districts. "So, we have written to the Government through the Higher Education department to order a CB- CID probe and transfer the case to the specialised unit, which is in a better position to unravel the issue," he told The Hindu today. After becoming an affiliating body, the Anna University this year started conducting a common examination for all First and Second Year B.E/B.Tech students, applicable to all 230 affiliated colleges. The first year examination was held earlier this month. Last week, during the last day of the examination involving a subject `engineering mechanics', reports of a suspected leak occurred. A student of a suburban college was found with some papers, which he claimed to have got from another college student.
The question paper, which had apparently been faxed from a southern district, was found to be a replica of the official question paper. The University authorities cancelled the examination and announced that a re-examination would be held later. (It is likely to be held in January first week).
