Veerappan aide held

ERODE Dec. 23. The Tamil Nadu Special Task Force has arrested an associate of the bandit Veerappan, Madaiyan, at Balapadugai Bhommarkuttai area in the Thalawady forests.

Madaiyan, who had a non-bailable warrant against him, was held during combing operations against Veerappan.

The police recovered an unlicensed country-made SBBL gun and 35 pellets from him. The STF handed him over to Hassanure police, who have registered a case under the Indian Arms Act.

The 40-year-old Madaiyan hails from Chikkahalli village in the Hassanure police limits. He was involved in the 1996 police encounter with the Veerappan gang.
