It is mandatory on the part of employers to comply with the Act as it applies on its own force. It applies from the date of set-up of the establishment and there is no waiting period. The EPF organisation encourages voluntary compliance by the employers, says a release from the Regional PF Commissioner. RPF Commissioners have been advised to issue the registration/code number within three days from the date of receipt of application in the prescribed form. Employers may obtain the application forms from any office of the EPF organisation or the same may be downloaded from the website, www.epfindia.com. The public relations officer shall assist in completing the forms and securing the registration/code number. Many establishments are not forthcoming to avail themselves of the facility. Failure to register and give compliance will attract the penal provisions of the Act and also levy of interest and penal damages to the extent of cent per cent on all belated deposits.
