Plea to President on HC Bench in capital

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM DEC. 22. The President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, has been urged to intervene for setting up a High Court Bench in the State capital.

In a memorandum presented to the President during his recent visit to the city, the High Court Bench Action Council said that out of the 28 States, Kerala alone did not have a Bench in the capital city.

A recent demand from some organisations in the Malabar area for a Bench in Kozhikode should not be allowed to stand in the way of the long-standing claim of the State capital for a Bench, the memorandum said.

Kerala had a high pendency of cases and the starting of a Bench in the capital would help to considerably reduce the pendency, the action council further said.
