Gangster opens fire at police team

BANGALORE DEC. 22. A notorious gangster, Praveen, alias Malayali Praveen, opened fire at a police team with a revolver and escaped when the team raided his hideout at Sooladevanahalli on Friday.

However, no one was injured in the firing. Following a tip off, the special police team constituted to solve robbery cases raided the farmhouse in Nelamangala Police limits.

While Praveen opened fire at the team and escaped under the cover of darkness, his associate, Ramesh (29) of Konappana Agrahara in the City, was arrested. Police have seized a car, a motorcycle and some documents from him.

Killed in mishap

Jayashankar of Vinayaknagar in Wilson Garden was killed on the spot after a BMTC bus hit him when he was crossing the K.H.Road in Sampangiramnagar Police limits at 5.15 p.m. on Saturday. Police, who arrested the bus driver, have seized the vehicle.

Arrested

Kalasipalyam Police have arrested Mani (20) of Wilson Garden on a charge of theft and seized six mobile phones worth Rs.40,000 from him.

Mani is reported to have entered houses in the guise of a newspaper delivery boy and stolen the mobile phones. He was allegedly involved in such cases in Sanjaynagar, Banashankari and Kalasipalyam police limits.
