Muslim board condemns killings

New Delhi Dec. 22. Coming out strongly against the killings of three girls for not abiding by the `burqa' diktat in Jammu and Kashmir, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today made it clear that Islam cannot be used to justify terrorism and the killing of innocents.

``It is un-Islamic and highly condemnable'' the AIMPLB convenor, Syed Shahabuddin, said while addressing a day-long national symposium: "Babri Masjid Question - Balance sheet and future direction'' here. He said Islam ``does not permit anyone to take innocent lives'' be they Hindu or Muslim. He said it advocates peace, tolerance and humanity.

In fact, ``the forces hostile to the faith were committing the acts to malign Islam,'' he said.

He also condemned the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's attempts to perform an `yajna' at the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque adjacent to the Qutab Minar and urged the Delhi Government not to allow the ``Hindutva outfits'' use such acts to get mileage for next year's Assembly polls.
