Villagers stand up to naxals

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD DEC. 22. In a bold move, villagers of Kamareddy mandal raised a voice of protest against the outlawed People's War naxalites for obstructing development in the villages by destroying public property.

Hundreds of villagers belonging to the Rangampet, Moshampoor, Uppalvai, Posaniper villages led by the respective sarpanches staged a dharna and `rasta roko' at Nizamsagar crossroads on the National Highway in Kamareddy town on Sunday in protest against the PWG.

The PWG naxalites of National Highway area committee blasted a railway engine on December 14 at Rangampet village under the SS Nagar police station limits of Kamareddy circle.

Immediately, the railway authorities cancelled the movement of three passenger train services between Kamareddy and Nizamabad.

Irked over the naxalites' act of obstructing development and mindless activities of violence which had resulted in the cancellation of local trains, the villagers took to the streets condemning the naxal act.

They also submitted a memorandum to the assistant station master, Kamareddy, Mahaboob, requesting him to restore the local train facility between Kamareddy and Nizamabad.

The villagers also staged a dharna in front of the RDO office at Kamareddy and submitted a memorandum requesting him to restore the train service. The Nizamabad Superintendent of Police, Shanka Brata Bagchi, said that the villagers of Rangampet had also passed a resolution that they would not allow the naxalites into their village and provide any assistance to them.
