Congress to hold series of meetings of weaker sections

By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL DEC. 22 . The AICC secretary and senior Congress leader, V. Hanumanth Rao, said the party would conduct a series of meetings aimed at bringing weaker sections back into the Congress in Coastal and Rayalaseema districts soon.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Rao said Sonia Gandhi's meeting had boosted the morale of the party workers and leaders and they would spread the message given by Mrs. Gandhi to all the corners of the State. The proposed meetings would be addressed by Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled states. Mr. Ajit Jogi and Digvijay Singh, Chief Ministers of Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh respectively, had agreed to visit the State, he said.

"Several Chief Ministers wanted to take part in the public meeting at Warangal. But, following the instructions of security officials, we asked them to stay away. The future meetings will be addressed by senior leaders and Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states,'' Mr. Rao said.

The senior Congress leader said that everyone expected an announcement form Ms. Gandhi, but she preferred not to make any statement as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was known for his copying style. "If we say that we will do something for the downtrodden, Chandrababu Naidu will immediately announce some scheme for them. Hence we want to restrain from announcing anything right now,'' Mr. Hanumanth Rao said.

Enthused over the success of the public meeting, Mr. Rao said more than anybody, the Chief Minister himself had been confused over the future political developments in the State. He sought to know how many people hailing from BC, SC, ST and weaker sections got employment during the TDP rule. The Congress leader accused Mr. Naidu of hijacking all the schemes launched by Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Mr. Hanumanth Rao thanked one and all for making the public meeting a grand success. He also thanked the local Congress leaders for their cooperation. The DCC president, G. V. Ramana Reddy, town Congress president, Hari Rama Devi, Youth Congress president, N. Rajender Reddy, B. Saraiah, MLA, and other leaders thanked the media and the public for making the meeting a success.
