TDP support to NDA will continue, says Naidu

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Dec. 16. The Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, today said his party would continue to extend outside support to the NDA Government and maintain good relations with the Centre as before.

Mr. Naidu stated this when asked by reporters here for his reaction to the BJP's landslide victory in Gujarat and whether it would have any bearing on the political equation between the TDP and the NDA.

In line with his cool reaction on Sunday to the BJP's electoral sweep, the TDP leader described the result as a people's verdict which everyone in a Parliamentary democracy should respect. He said political parties might be in and out of power, but what mattered more was good governance. He hoped that the political dispensation in Gujarat would fulfil the people's aspirations.

On the Congress' defeat, he said the party had no policy on terrorism and extremism. Its leaders should understand the implications of their wavering stand.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of eight BJP MLAs, led by the Assembly floor leader, N. Indrasena Reddy, met Mr. Naidu at his residence and offered sweets to celebrate their party's victory in Gujarat.
