2 BJP MLAs held for unlawful assembly

CHENNAI Dec. 16. Two BJP MLAs — K. Lakshmanan of Mylapore and H. Raja representing Karaikudi — were arrested along with 60 others on charges of unlawful assembly and for violating prohibitory orders on Anna Salai, near Periyar Statue here, while celebrating the party's victory in the Gujarat elections today.

They have been charged under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly affecting public tranquillity), 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) read with Section 41 of the City Police Act.

All those arrested were later released on bail.
