He is already facing a "visitation inquiry" ordered by the Governor into distribution of UGC funds meant for herbal development, and reinstatement of a professor. S. Ignacimuthu was shifted to the Madras University about five months ago even before completion of his three-year tenure in the Bharathiar University because of the respect he gained in various quarters and his innovativeness. According to Bharathiar university sources who requested anonymity, the Secretary, Higher Education, V.K. Subburaj, has now been ordered to find out whether there was any irregularity in appointments and funding of building constructions. The sources pointed out that it was Fr. Ignacimuthu, who regularised the services of 63 temporary workers, who had been working for the past 15 years. Besides, he got them the pay scale Madras University staff members were getting. He did this only after getting Syndicate permission and the assent of the Governor", they contended. On construction of buildings, the sources said that they were all built by the PWD. The current inquiry was nothing but a "virtual follow-up" of the one ordered into his functioning in the Madras University, the sources said.
