Red Cross blood banks at all dt. headquarters

CHITTOOR DEC. 16. The Indian Red Cross Society, AP Branch, will establish blood banks at all the district headquarters in the State in order to help the needy the Governor, C. Rangarajan, said here on Monday.

He was addressing a meeting organised by the Social Welfare department in during a visit to the Scheduled Tribe Hostel for Girls. He said the Red Cross was operating blood banks at Nellore, Ongole, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Mahabubnagar, besides starting a new one at Chittoor. The blood bank at Warangal was ready for inauguration.

Efforts would be made to establish blood banks in the remaining district headquarters. He complemented the Red Cross Society State secretary, Rajyalakshmi, for starting a modern blood bank at Hyderabad. "Blood is a life saving device and there is no substitute for it. There will be no ill effects on people who donate blood," he said.

He advised doctors at the blood banks to ensure that blood received from people was tested properly and was safe. He called upon people to regularly donate blood to help the needy. Besides, the Red Cross would also be undertaking several activities to help the downtrodden and destitutes, he said.

The Red Cross Chairperson, Haripriya Rangarajan, said several activities were being taken up by the Red Cross to help the poor. She sought people's cooperation in for the successful functioning of blood banks.

The District Minister, B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, said there was no dearth of funds to solve the drinking water problem in the district, adding that the Government had sanctioned Rs.1-crore to solve the problem.

The headquarter town should be developed in all aspects without political affiliations, he said. The Collector P. V. Sathyanarayana Murthy, thanked the MP, Ramakrishna Reddy, the Rajya Sabha member, Durga Ramakrishna, the Badrinath Sreenivasa Trust and K. Balakrishna Reddy, president, Fruit Juice Industries Association, for extending financial help in starting the blood bank at Chittoor. Senior advocate and founder of the Red Cross Society, Chittoor branch, Srinivas Ayyangar, was felicitated by the Governor. The Governor also released a calendar highlighting the activities of agricultural technology and management agency.

Earlier, Dr. Rangarajan inaugurated a blood bank on the Red Cross Society building premises. The DPAP project director, Ravichandra, and the TTD Board member, Srinivasulu, donated blood on the occasion. The Deputy Director, Social Welfare Raghuram, the Municipal Chairman P. Chengalraya Naidu, the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University governing body member V. Sundar Naidu, and the Joint Collector B. Venkatesam, were present.
