Body found in hospital's drinking water tank

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH Dec. 16. The decomposed body of a 30-year-old unidentified man was fished out from the ground-level drinking water tank in Cuddapah Government Hospital on Monday. The man's bloated body in the water tank at the rear end of the hospital was detected after drinking water emanated foul smell. The body bore no external injuries and was suspected to have been in the tank since three or four days.

The words `C. Chinnodu and Peddodu' in were tattooed on his right forearm and he was wearing a brownish pant and shirt, the Cuddapah West circle inspector, K. Pareedappa, said. The shirt had the label of `Lenin Tailors' and the body was yet to be identified, he said. The CI and staff inspected the tank. The body was fished out and a case was booked.

The Resident Medical Officer, Peddanna, said the tank was used to supply drinking water to the main operation theatre, ophthalmic ward and operation theatre for eye surgeries and gynaecology ward. The water was also occasionally used in the hospital canteen.

The District Coordinator of Hospital Services, Prasanna Kumar Reddy, and the Hospital Superintendent, Kumaraswamy, said water supply from the tank was stopped and borewell water from another tank and drinking water facility was being used. They said the main operation theatre had been closed for long due to ongoing repairs to its roof and the ophthalmic surgery theatre was closed for about two months now.

Meanwhile, the AIYF State vice-presidents, Subrahmanyam and Manohar Reddy, led a dharna on the hospital premises demanding the suspension of Mr. Kumaraswamy. They alleged that the water tank was not being cleaned once in three days as per guidelines and hence the body in it remained for over three days.
