Girl succumbs to burns

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Dec. 16. The 26-year old G. Gomathy, admitted to the general hospital a few days ago with serious burn injuries, died today.

Gomathy's parents, who had already raised allegations that her daughter had been constantly harassed for more dowry, wanted immediate arrest of those responsible for her death.

A police source said here today that Gomathi's husband Ganesan who was working as a teacher in a government primary school at Nettapakkam near here, was arrested and remanded.

The CPI (M) secretary, T. Murugan, said there should be detailed investigation and culprits should be punished.

A communication from R.Vanangamudi, organising secretary of the Dalit Panthers of India (Pondicherry), alleged growing violence against women in the Union Territory.
