The adalat, organised for the benefit of the customers of the Indian Overseas Bank, took up as many as 500 cases for settlement. A collection of Rs. 5.2 lakhs was made on the spot. The adalat attempts to evolve a mechanism by which the parties, including small farmers, entrepreneurs and traders, could repay the loan in easy instalments, according to a release. The retired judges, Seenidurai and Mohammad Naynullah Khan, besides the IOB officials, R. Santhanam, Saros Gandhi and A.J. Prasad, presided over the proceedings. The Tiruvallur sub-judge, S. Rajalakshmi, inaugurated the adalat.
