Farmers near Daida Major on the NSRC tried to close down the shutters to draw water in the upper reaches of the canal on Sunday. However, they could not execute their task. Immediately, they sought the help of a works inspector, Nani, and some "laskars'' (canal operators). Interestingly, the works inspector and "laskars'' helped the farmers in closing down the shutters. The Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) of Rentachintala came to know about the incident later on Sunday morning. He immediately informed the incharge Collector, Anil Kumar Singhal, about it. Soon, Mr. Singhal called up the Chief Engineer of NSRC, Nageswara Rao, and the Superintending Engineer, Gangadhara Rao, and expressed his displeasure over the nexus between the irrigation staff and some unruly farmers. He also informed the Minister for Major Irrigation, Kadiyam Srihari, and the Minister for Medical and Health, Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, besides the Secretary of the Irrigation Department. Mr. Singhal also explained the situation to the Collector, K. Ramakrishna Rao, who is on leave. Meanwhile, some "laskars'' helped farmers in the Piduguralla area also tamper with the water. The farmers broke the shutters. When the persons concerned were contacted by the MRO of Piduguralla, they reportedly told him that they could not attend the repair works as it was a Sunday and that they would effect the repairs only on Monday.
