The caretaker Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, won the Maninagar seat in Ahmedabad city by a margin of over 75,000 votes by defeating the nearest Congress rival, Yatin Oza. The BJP has retained the seat for the fourth consecutive time. The Industries Minister and number two in the Cabinet, Suresh Mehta, lost the Mandvi seat in Kutch district by only 592 votes. He had held the seat for five terms. The former Pradesh Congress president, Amarsinh Chaudhary, retained the Khedbrahma scheduled tribe reserve seat in Sabarkantha district by a margin of over 10,000 votes. The former Chief Minister, Dillip Parikh (Congress), was defeated in Dhandhuka in Ahmedabad district by a margin of over 4,000 votes. This was his second consecutive defeat. The Forest Minister, Kanjibhai Patel, was defeated in Chikhli in Bulsar district by a margin of about 12,000 votes. The Minister of State, Liladhar Waghela, lost the Deodar seat in Banaskantha district to an Independent, Bhemabhai Patel, by a margin of over 17,000 votes. The Janata Dal (United) State president, Chhotubhai Vasava, retained the Jhagadia scheduled tribe reserved seat in Broach district defeating his nearest Congress rival, Dalpat Vasava, by a margin of about 16,000 votes.
