D.B. Ratheesh of Services won the first gold in the men's single scull race with a timing of 8:37.40 while, V.K. Vinod Kumar of Kerala and Laxman Singh of Chandigarh finished second and third clocking 9:1.25 and 9:2.64 respectively. Later, Sunil Kakade and Kudrat Ali, the Asian championship bronze medallists, earned Services the second gold in men's double sculls. However, in women's section, there was something to cheer for the host as Shalini Varghese and Manjula Roy clinched the gold in double sculls with 9:13.96 while Kerala's Jincymol Varghese and Malini Baroi and Andaman & Nicobar pair Suchitra Rani Mondal and Malathi Sarkar picked silver and bronze respectively. The results: Men: Single sculls: 1. D.R. Ratheesh (Svc) 8:37.40, 2. V.K. Vinod Kumar (Ker), 3. Laxman Singh (Chd); Double scull: 1. Sunil Kakade & Kudrat Ali (Svc), 2.
