`NRIs keen on reviving interest in Indian culture'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI DEC. 15. The eighth music festival of the Hamsadhwani featuring NRI artistes was inaugurated here today by the Bharatanatyam exponent, Padma Subrahmanyam. Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam and the former Chief Election Commissioner, T. N. Seshan, said the NRIs were keen on reviving interest among the people world over on ancient Indian culture and arts.

The NRI community was promoting Indian arts and culture especially among the first generation U.S.-born Indians in the United States. Richard Haynes, U.S. Consul-General in South India said the 21st century could signify flowering of Indian culture both in the east and west. Jayalakshmi Seshan lit a lamp to mark the inauguration of the 22-day festival.

V. Srinivasan, General Manager, State Bank of India, offered felicitations. The sabha secretary, R. Ramachandran, said the festival would feature thirty concerts and for the first time, seven classical dance concerts, besides four Hindustani recitals.
