Sukhi Sivam honoured

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI Dec. 15. A good applause is a token of appreciation and ``it's the audience duty towards artistes who performed,'' said S. Mohan, former Supreme Court judge. Speaking on the occasion of the Sruthi Laya Kendra's award presentation here today, he said the Kendra's awards this year went to people who had spread the greatness of Tamil in other shores. The `Sri Guru Surajananda award' was given to the Tamil orator, Sukhi Sivam, while vocalist, T.N. Seshagopalan, was given the `Gowri Manohari' award. Mridangist Murugu Bhoopathy received the C.K. Venkata Narasimha Endowment award, set up to honour young and upcoming artistes. Sukhi Sivam said that by merely listening to a performer render his art, music gives the listener a temporary `mukti'. T.N. Seshagopalan said Karaikudi Mani, mridangist and Kendra founder, was an excellent guru whose disciples imbibed his style.
