The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, said BSNL connectivity should be provided on East Coast Road as many people were using the road frequently. He also wanted cut in rates. The Chief General Manager of the Tamilnadu Telecom Circle, Chennai, K. Mahadevan, said that for the first 15 days of launch, there would be no registration charge and no activation charge. He also referred to the concessions available to subscribers. M. P. Velusamy, General Manager, IMPCS, Tamilnadu Telecom circle, Tiruchi, said the present capacity of cellphone services here was 7,000 and by March it would be increased to 18,000. The General Manager, BSNL (Pondicherry), S. M. Kalavathi, said suggestions made by the Chief Minister on coverage on ECR and bringing down the rates would be considered.
