Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the Bangalore Rural District Superintendent of Police, K.Sreenivasa, said that Venkatappa (40) from Cheemachanahalli in Devanahalli taluk had borrowed a loan of Rs.4,900 from the landlord, Subbanna of Naganayakanahalli village, about seven months ago. Since he borrowed the money from Subbanna, Venkatappa was working for him but was not paid any wages. A few days ago, Venkatappa told Subanna that he was unable to work as his health had deteriorated. Subbanna told Venkatappa to repay the amount he had borrowed if he could not work. However, Venkatappa told the landlord that there was no need for him to repay the loan as he had worked for him for more than six months without wages. On Thursday, Subbanna, his son, Narayana Gowda, and brother-in-law, Basave Gowda, forcibly brought Venkatappa to their house in Naganayakanahalli and allegedly detained him there. Later, when they learnt that Venkatappa's wife had approached the Vijayapura Police for help, they released Venkatappa, Mr. Srinivasa said. However, the Assistant Sub-Inspector, Krishnappa, and Head Constable, Lakkappa, of the Vijayapura Police Station, who took up investigation, allegedly failed to register a case. They have been suspended for dereliction of duty. The Vijayapura Police have arrested Subbanna and registered a case against him, his son and brother-in-law, who are absconding.
