By Our Special Correspondent
Prepared by the Standing Committee for Taxation and Finance, this ``financial mirror'' will provide information about the progress of ward works, spill-over works and the funds available to complete pending works. It is also expected to serve as a guide to corporators to find out his area's revenue contribution in terms of taxes collected. After the first part of the "Arthika Dharpana" was released, there was better awareness among the corporators, especially the first-timers, about the works in their wards, according to the Standing Committee Chairman, N.L.Narendrababu, whose brainchild the booklet was. The second part will include maps of the wards and graphs showing the funds allocated and spent. Now, no corporator could claim ignorance about the works pending or completed in his ward. Being a permanent record and compiled with the help of BMP officers, the booklet will also help corporators find out what works were done or left unfinished by their predecessors. They can also demand more funds from the BMP for their respective wards on the basis of the past record and prioritise works. Interested citizens can also be shown the facts presented in the booklet and made aware what exactly is being done to improve living conditions. The Taxation and Finance Committee is also considering plans to place all its resolutions on a website. This will make it possible for the public to know more about decisions on taxation. This proposal is likely to be presented at the meeting of the BMP Council after the Mayoral election.
