The decision to expel the MPs was taken by Mr. Patnaik in consultation with senior party leaders, the secretary-general of the BJD, Damodar Rout, said. The three MPs had been suspended from the party on August 9 for "anti-party activities". Later, they had joined hands with three other party MPs to elect their own party leader in the Lok Sabha.
