Narrow escape for Rangasamy

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Nov. 16. The Pondicherry Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy had a providential escape from being hurt when a tall wooden screen fell almost a foot behind his back at the lounge of the airport at Lawspet today.

The incident occurred when Mr. Rangasamy was talking to newsmen while waiting for the arrival of the Karnataka Chief Minister, S. M. Krishna.

A pair of screens were placed on the corridor of the lounge one behind the other. Either the wooden foot rest of the screen was not able to bear the weight of the screen or due to heavy wind, it fell behind the back of the Chief Minister. He escaped a possible hit on his head. Some of the officials present at the lounge immdediately repositioned the screen .

For the second time also the screen fell some minutes later and ultimately the police removed the screens from the corridor and put them close to the wall.

Police had a tough time in controlling the surging crowd of the Congress volunteers at the airport and they turned up to receive Mr. Krishna atleast an hour before his arrival at 11.20 a.m. All efforts to restrict the number of persons from proceeding towards the plane in which Krishna had flown to Pondicherry virtually proved infructuous as all including cameramen rushed forward.
