By Our Special Correspondent
In the first case the urine sample of Snow Deer, who ran unplaced in Race No 43 of the Bangalore Summer Meeting on June 2 was found to have tested positive for the presence of a prohibited substance, Morphine. The Stewards decided to suspend Dominic's trainer's licence from November 24 to February 21, 2003 (both days inclusive) and also fine him Rs.15,000. But the Stewards meted out a much harsher punishment to the trainer in the second case pertaining to his charge Nimitz. whose urine sample showed the presence of Codeine and Morphine after the horse had won Race No 115 during the Bangalore Summer Meeting on July 6. The Stewards suspended Dominic's licence from February 22, 2003 to March 31, 2003 and should he apply for a licence for the season 2003-2004 to consider the same only after February 21, 2004. He was also fined Rs. 15,000. Meanwhile, the Stewards of the Mysore Race Club cleared three backlog cases reported during the Regular racing season that ended in mid-October. The Stewards took up three major cases after the last race on the opening day of the short Mysore Winter Season on November 11. Acting on a report placed before them by the Stipes, the Stewards fined S.Santosh Rao Rs.5,000 for faulty saddling of his charge Dust on the Bottle (Shobhan Babu up) on October 4. The saddle on Dust on the Bottle completely shifted out of position resulting in the rider being dislodged from his mount close to the winning post. The Stewards slapped a fine of Rs.15,000 on trainer Dominic for the unsatisfactory running of his charge In A Flash at Mysore on October 10. Jockey P.Ramesh, who rode In A Flash in that race was suspended from November 21 to the end of the current Mysore Winter Season for not permitting his mount to run on its merits. P.Ramesh is not permitted to ride work. With regard to the improved performance of Royal Steps on October 10, the Stewards fined trainer M.Eshwer Rs.5,000 for the reversal of form of his charge, winner of Race No 141 during the Mysore Season, as compared to its previous runs in Race Numbers 85 and 101.
