Indian-Americans to hold meetings with U.S. lawmakers

New York Nov. 16. The U.S. India Political Action Committee (USINAPC) will hold a series of meetings from November 21 in Washington with leading U.S. lawmakers to facilitate a better understanding of the Indian-American community and its interests.

USINAPC, a bipartisan organisation, said it had launched the initiative after market research showed that Congressional leaders and policymakers would benefit from a more focussed message about the interests of Indian Americans.

Interacting with the leading Senators and Congressmen of both Republican and Democratic parties during the ``Breakfast on the Hill'' meetings would be Indian American businessmen, professionals and activists who had demonstrated a strong desire and ability to raise the profile of the Indian American community, it said.

The goal was to create opportunities for Indian Americans to advance their political, business, economic and social agendas in partnership with America's elected officials and policymakers, the committee said.

USINPAC's initiative would begin with Senator Orrin Hatch, the incoming Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, as its first guest, and was scheduled to have breakfast with a dozen participants on November 21, it said.

Next month, Senator Chuck Grassley, incoming Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, will be the honoured guest.

Commenting on its latest initiative, the USINPAC Executive Director, Sanjay Puri, said: ``The Indian American community is ready to contribute in a meaningful way to the social and political process in the country and USINPAC is willing to advance that agenda.''
