A repeat offence will attract a further fine since the compounding fee for violation of the Act has been modified. Transport and police officials in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi are empowered to compound offences against MV Act violations. Rash driving has been described as driving dangerously and is different from driving at excessive speed limits. Driving over the speed limits is listed as an offence under section 183 (1) and the amount to be compounded is Rs.400, while a slight modification of this, as per section 183 (2) (causes to drive and exceeding speed limits) will mean a compound amount of Rs. 300. Racing and trails of speed will attract provisions under section 189 and a fine of Rs. 500. In case of failure to renew registration, this fee will be Rs. 100 while a disqualified person caught driving will have to shell out Rs. 500. A similar amount will also be levied for those driving without a valid driving license or below the age of 18.
