Sania wins doubles, enters singles final

NEW DELHI NOV. 16. The 836th ranked Sania Mirza put herself in line for an unprecedented third successive title, as she defeated the 571st ranked Chin-Bee Khoo of Malaysia, the fourth seed, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals of the $10,000 ITF women's tennis tournament in Manila on Saturday.

Sania will take on the 814th ranked Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan who defeated Yan-Hua Dong of China 6-0, 6-4 in the other semifinal.

Meanwhile, Sania had something to celebrate on Saturday itself, as she and Radhika Tulpule clinched the doubles crown with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the third-seeded Yan-Hua Dong and Yao Zhang of China in the final.

The Indian players had it tough in singles otherwise. The sixth-seeded Sonal lost to Kim Kilsdonk 4-6, 6-2, 3-6; Megha Vakharia lost 2-6, 2-6 to Gabriela Velasco-Andreu of Spain; Geeta Manohar lost to Diana Costa of Portugal 2-6, 1-6; and Radhika Tulpule had lost to Elisabeth Bahn 6-7 (5-7), 2-6.
