Mufti to enact accountability law

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Nov. 16. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has said that his Government would bring in a legislation making people in high offices accountable. The office of the Chief Minister would also come under its ambit.

Winding up a joint meeting of the Cabinet and the district board here, Mr. Sayeed said "every penny of the available grant must be utilised judiciously and properly accounted for. The need of the hour is to make every officer accountable for his action." He did not want to dig up the past but would make every officer accountable in future.

Assuring a dispensation free of corruption, nepotism and favouritism, Mr. Sayeed said "integrity, honesty and efficiency are the watchword" for his officers. The Government would create an institution for accountability that would cover everyone, including the Chief Minister, Ministers and legislators.

The Government would soon come out with a comprehensive economic package, he said. "The State Government is in the process of drafting a package which will boost economic and other development activities." And the road network in the State would be given utmost priority.

"Several roads would be taken up for execution and upgradation during the current financial year."
