The academy, which held a meeting here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Gurulinga Kapse, also selected 18 books published in 2001 for its annual Book Award. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and a citation each. The winners are Shankara Katagi (Ganeya Nada, poetry, Agrahara Krishna Murthy (Neeru Mattu Preeti, novel), Fakir Mohammed Katpadi (Dajjala, short story), Mudenur Sanganna (Soole Sankavva, play), Vijayendra Patil (Atmasakshiya Havligalu, essay), Rahamat Tarikere (Andaman Kanasu, travelogue), Ananth Nag (Nanna Tamma Shankara, biography), Lakshmipathy (Kaludari, literary criticism), A.P. Manjappa (Kaviranga Virachita Cauvery Mahatme, editing), Sharana Gowda Yeradittina (Muttina Betta, children's literature), Na. Someshwara (Baduka Nedva Badali Jodane, science literature), Rajarama Hegde (Loukika Aloukika, humanities), B.Rajashekarapa (Itihasa Kathana, research), Na. Ujire (Kempu Tagadina Chavani, translation), N.P. Shankaranarayana Rao (Mahatma Gandhi Kriti Sanchana, translation), N. Marishamachar (Bharatiya Kale, critique), Prakash Raj Mehu (Timmajjiya Maglundi, maiden work), and N. Balasubramanya (Indian Poetics, translation).
