The District Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, said the songs rendered by such a large number of students overrode religion, caste and community barriers. Earlier, he lit a lamp to mark the inauguration of the celebrations. The Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, Ravindra, who hoisted the national tricolour lauded the theme of national integrations stating that it laid emphasis on the importance of unity and education. The songs rendered included `Vandemataram, Sare Jahan Se Atcha, Hum Honge Kamyab, Balalamu memu, Pillallara - papallara, besides Janmakarini in Malayalam, Odi Vilayadu in Tamil, Elegalubooraru in Kannada and Emoram Moro Motha in Assamese. The coordinator of Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, donated Rs. 6,000 while a dental surgeon, Tirumala Rao, distributed toothpastes and brushes worth of Rs. 30,000. Kurnool: The Education Department and Bal Bhavan jointly organised Children's Day celebrations here on Thursday. The DEO, K. Venkateswarlu, inaugurated the function. He promised to improve cultural activities in schools. Bal Bhavan organised competitions in essay writing and drawing for children. The DEO and the Deputy EO, Gousia Begum, gave away the prizes to the winners. The Superintendent of Bal Bhavan, Mohammad Basha, and others were present. At another function at Urdu Motia School, Pedapadakhana, the Avadhanula Voluntary Service Society donated clothes to 85 children. Merit students were given prizes. The Head Mistress, Nasirunnisa, and Murthy of the Society, were present. CHITTOOR: A meeting was organised by the Education Department here on Thursday in connection with Children's Day. Addressing the meeting, Reddemma, ZP Chairperson, asked children follow the ideals of national leaders and shape their character in a such way that they serve the society and the country selflessly. The Municipal Chairman T. Changal Raya Naidu, urged teachers to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among students. The DEO, C.H. Pullaiah, and other officials were also present. Children from various schools presented cultural programmes on the occasion.
