`Emotional disorders may hamper IQ in kids'

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI Nov. 14. Emotional disorders in children could leave behind serious characteristic shortcomings, that could hamper their Intelligence Quotient, said B. V. Raja Rao, a neurophysician, here on Thursday.

Speaking at the `Child guidance clinic', a camp held on the eve of Children's Day, he said the mental health of children had to be given due attention as conduct disorders could result in aggressive behaviour like crying, being disobedient, stealing, running away from schools and even go to the extent of fire-setting. Parents were advised to be patient while dealing with their wards and aware of their emotions.

In his address, renowned paediatrician A. Armugam, warned that bad parenting could lead to mental sickness in some cases, causing phobic anxiety, separatist frame of mind and sibling rivalry in children.

Civic chief's assurance

In a similar programme held by PASS, an NGO, the Municipal Chairman, K. Sankar Reddy, assured that poor children would be given education in municipal schools and bus passes would also be provided.
