According to the police, Naresh Gupta, editor of a local newspaper "Sajag Rashtriya Samachar'', with its offices located in the Jwala Heri market, complained to the Paschim Vihar police about a pay order of Oriental Bank of Commerce worth Rs. 9,000 being found fake. The pay order was made for an advertisement of an antiseptic cream. Investigations led to the arrest of Ahmed Khan and Santosh Kumar -- both from Bihar -- from A-Block, JJ Colony Madipur on November 10. Their interrogation revealed that the two had posed as agents working for advertisers of famous products on a commission basis. They used to go to the offices of the newspaper and give the advertisements on "immediate commission in cash''. Thus, even before the newspaper authorities came to know about the fraud, they would disappear. The two managed to get fake bank drafts and stamps by scanning and printing on computers. Tanvir, an associate of the accused who is absconding, had the knowledge of screen printing with the help of which they prepared the fake draft and stamp. They used to put forged signatures in the name of bank officers. According to the police, the gang has been active since July. The accused revealed that they had been involved in about 15 to 20 cases. Emboldened by their success, they planned to expand their base across Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and recruit more in their fold. A case under relevant sections has been registered at the Paschim Vihar police station and efforts are on to nab Tanvir.
