Life term for matricide

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM Nov. 14. The Kollam Additional Sessions Judge, K. Srilatha Devi, has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Bilal, to life imprisonment on charges of matricide.

The court observed that the Prosecutor, H. Raju, had on the basis of evidence proved beyond doubt that Bilal hacked his mother Anandavalliamma (52) to death in a fit of rage on April 15, 2000.

Except for Bilal's father and the official witnesses, all other witnesses had turned hostile. The Prosecution proved that dues incurred on a loan taken by the deceased for a hotel run by the family at Kulathupuzha Junction had resulted in the murder.

The case was registered by the then Kulathupuzha Circle Inspector, B. Surendran. Bilal, eldest son of Anandavalliamma, has been sent to the Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail.
