Wipro, Zenith, HCL will be introducing PCs based on 3.06 Ghz Pentium IV processor, which is being launched today worldwide in 45 countries, Avtar Saini, director, South Asia, Intel Asia Electronics, told reporters here. The price differential would be about Rs. 20,000 between a conventional PC and the PC having 3.06 Ghz Pentium IV, Mr. Saini said. The multinational PC vendors operating in India were in the process of configuring their systems on 3.06 Ghz Pentium IV in accordance with their parent's global launches, Mr. Saini said. He, however, declined to name any MNC computer manufacturer who has committed to make systems based on Pentium IV 3.06 Ghz. A HCL Infosystems spokesperson said their brand of 3.06 Ghz PC would cost Rs. 99,900 and would be targeted towards the high-end customers. The 3.06 Ghz Pentium IV along with hyper-threading technology offers multi-tasking jobs on the desktop computers such as gaming, playing DVD, burn a music CD, editing home movies among others. The HT technology, which Intel claims, could boost a PC performance by 25 per cent, would run equally efficiently under both operating systems Windows and Linux. PTI
