The Northern Range Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sanker Reddy, who is in charge of the security arrangements, told The Hindu on Thursday that police personnel including the Armed Reserve Police and the Malabar Special Police had already been deployed for duty in connection with the function. He said that special policemen have been posted at the makeshift helipad on the western side of the Farook College grounds. The anti-sabotage squad has been deployed to monitor the surroundings. Mock drills and trial landings were conducted at the site. He said the Kozhikode (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP), T. Vikram, had been given overall charge of the programme. The City Police Commissioner, Sanjeev Patjoshi, the Crime Branch SP, Subash Babu, and the Assistant Police Commissioner, N.M.Thomas, would be assisting him. Ten deputy superintendents of police, 14 circle inspectors, 57 sub- inspectors, 600 policemen and 35 women constables would be deployed for duty on the occasion of the VIP visit. Senior officers attached to the National Security Guards (NSG) in New Delhi will be here on November 15 to monitor the security arrangements. A bullet proof car has also been arranged for the purpose. The invitees have been advised to arrive for the programme at least an hour before the helicopter lands. Instructions have been given not carry cell phones and other articles such as bottles, umbrellas and bags to the venue. The police have also asked the public to cooperate to make the function a success. Meanwhile the district administration has also geared up for the function at the Farook College. A team of doctors attached to the Department of Health Services (DHS) and a cardiologist, C.C.Velayudan, of the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, has also been constituted to meet any requirements. "A 10-member team of specialists from the medical college has also been arranged at Agali in Palakkad district, '' said, M.R. Chandran, principal, Medical College, Kozhikode. The additional district magistrate, P.S.Mohammed Sagir, who is coordinating the activities, said that some roads at Mankkavu, Panniyankara and Feroke are being repaired as part of the alternative arrangements of transport. Mr. Abdul Kalam will leave for Agali at 12.15 p.m.
