Sir, With the banks reducing the interest rates in line with the credit policy, depositors with no other support would be shifting en masse either to agricultural cooperative banks or NBFCs which offer a higher rate of interest. A country like India, which does not have a social security system as that of the Western countries, should give due weightage to the problem of the old people, most of whom have lost the comfort and security of the joint family system.
