Harish Salve declines second term

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI Oct. 29. The Solicitor-General, Harish Salve, whose three-year term ends on November 3, has declined the Centre's offer of a second term, citing ``personal reasons''.

He denied that he had resigned and made it clear that his decision not to have a second term had nothing to do with the Supreme Court's opinion in the Presidential reference on Gujarat. ``In fact, I had a difficult time convincing the Government to give me a short break to attend to my personal problem. I will be back after a short break.''

The Centre has extended the term of the Attorney-General, Soli Sorabjee, by three years as his term also comes to an end in the next few days.
