`Young World' painting competition tomorrow

BANGALORE Sept. 6. The finals of The Hindu Young World painting competition 2002 will be held between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday at Goodwill Girls' High School on Promenade Road in Fraser town. As many as 2,000 entries were received from Bangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Bellary, and even Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra for the preliminary round which has two categories: juniors (fourth to seventh standard) and seniors (eighth to 10th standard).

A total of 500 entries were selected by the judges, and these students will participate in the finals.

The results will be announced in the afternoon.

M.S. Nanjunda Rao, Director, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, will distribute the prizes to the winners. Participation certificates will be awarded to deserving students.

Quiz on Sept. 14

The regional round of The Hindu Young World Quiz 2002 for schoolchildren will be held on September 14 at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall here.

The quiz is being held at 11 centres in the country.

The quiz will be a general one with audiovisual content. A maximum of six teams with two students each from an institution are eligible to participate. The preliminary round will have a written test, after which six teams will be selected to participate in the final round the same day.

The winners (one team) in the regional round will represent Karnataka at the All-India Finals in Chennai on October 26. This event is open to all students from eighth to 12th standards. Pre-university students are also eligible to participate. The registrations are to come through the respective institutions only.
