Signboards to display MCH works

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Sept. 6. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) has decided to keep signboards in all localities of the twin cities displaying the particulars of various works executed by it.

The MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, said the details of amount spent on works sanctioned in each locality and the name of the contractor would be displayed on the signboards. Reviewing complaints received on the poor condition of road works in certain localities in the recent past, she instructed executive engineers to list out the works worth more than Rs. 50,000. She asked the engineers to inspect them and submit reports within a week.

She asked officials in the engineering wing to improve their performance and take up responsibility of better maintenance of roads. She reviewed the workload and said the necessary action would be taken to rationalise the workload of officials from Assistant Engineer onwards.

Mrs. Chitra Ramachandran said that a training programme would be organised in consultation with the National Academy for Construction to motivate and improve quality consciousness among officials. She advised them to develop a General Information System (GIS) package for all major roads in the twin cities.

She observed that though the list of investments were computerised, the estimates were not prepared using computers. She said computers would be provided to all executive engineers and an online network would be in place for better access to information.
