Mentally-ill woman found abandoned

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI Sept. 6 . The callous attitude of the Government General Hospital staff to mentally-ill patients seems to continue. A young mentally-ill woman was today found lying outside the `casualty OP' department of the GH.

Some social work students informed The Banyan and a team went to the spot in an ambulance to rescue the woman. When they found her, she was lying in rags, outside the casualty department, her body covered with wounds and bruises.

According to the volunteers who went on the rescue trip, the woman, who called herself `Mani' and aged about 35 years was unkempt, violent and `agitated'. The woman was given first aid and is temporarily lodged in the shelter home being run by the organisation.
