Speaking after releasing the Madhya Pradesh Government's Report on Rajiv Gandhi Missions, Ms. Gandhi lauded the State's efforts in bringing about social transformation through convergence of panchayati raj institutions, self-help groups and watershed management. She however, asked the State to do more in the area of sanitation. Recalling the "mission approach" adopted by the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, in rural drinking water, immunisation, oilseeds, mass literacy and telecommunications, she said he had emphasised on two aspects social audit and zeal. Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh said the people of the State were a solution, not a problem. The State had achieved remarkable results in watershed management through people's participation. "Wherever bureaucrats or politicians interfered, people's efforts have failed. But left to themselves, they have achieved wonders,'' he added. Ms. Gandhi also released a book "Malwa Ki Sanskritik Virasat Evam Paryatan'' (The Cultural Heritage and Tourism of Malwa) by Subhash Kumar Sojatia, State Minister for Commerce and Industries.
