The TTD's Executive Officer, P. Krishnaiah, accompanied by senior officials and engineers today went round the mada streets and was also said to have inspected some of the structures which were still to be demolished as part of the TTD's decision not to have private residences around the temple. The inspection of the buildings assumes significance in the wake of a reported GO issued recently by the Government giving the green signal to the TTD to go ahead with acquisition of the land around the four mada streets for the beautification of the temple surroundings as per an approved master plan. As per the GO, the TTD is to evict the tenants occupying the buildings around the temple and rehabilitate them suitably somewhere down the hill at Tirupati. The Left parties criticised the GO as it would displace more than 700 families which had been living around the shrine for years, and demanded its withdrawal.
